Valve Body Replace












1. Disconnect battery ground cable and remove air cleaner assembly.

2. Remove inner engine cooling fan assembly.

3. Disconnect vacuum hoses from cruise control servo and vacuum modulator.

4. Disconnect electrical connectors from cruise control servo, distributor, oil pressure sending unit and transaxle.

5. Disconnect T.V. cable from throttle lever and bracket, and from transaxle.

6. Remove vacuum modulator.

7. Install engine support fixture J-28467 or equivalent and note position of left side support hooks.

8. Raise and support vehicle, then remove left wheel assembly.

9. Remove right and left wheel housing lower splash shields.

10. Remove left stabilizer bar link and support left control arm with suitable jack

11. Remove left ball joint cotter pin and nut, then disconnect ball joint using suitable puller.

12. Remove 4 nuts securing transaxle to cradle and bracket.

13. Remove A/C compressor splash shield, No. 1 cradle mount insulator cover, and the left side engine mount and damper fasteners.

14. Remove 6 right front cradle joining bolts.

15. Remove left stabilizer mount retaining bolts.

16. Remove 2 left rear cradle joining bolts.

17. Disconnect wire loom and vacuum hoses from retainers on cradle and transaxle.

18. Disconnect hoses from AIR pipe and disconnect pipe retainer from rear of cradle.

19. Lower vehicle.

20. Raise engine/transaxle assembly 2 inches using support fixture hooks at flywheel end of engine.

21. Raise and support vehicle.

22. Remove No. 1 insulator bolt and separate right front corner of cradle assembly, then remove left cradle section.

23. Disconnect AIR valve from transaxle and position aside.

24. Remove stud bolts securing transaxle bracket to bellhousing, noting position of bolts for installation.

25. Lower vehicle, the lower engine/ transaxle assembly to position noted in step 7.

26. Remove transaxle mount bracket upper stud bolts and the bracket, rotating bracket clockwise to air removal.

27. Lower left side of transaxle to limit allowed by support hooks.

28. Raise vehicle and install suitable drive axle boot seal protectors.

29. Disconnect drive axle and secure toward rear of vehicle, taking care not to overextend drive axle joints.

30. Remove case side cover pan bolts, pan and gaskets.

31. Remove wiring harness and VCC solenoid from pressure switches and case connector.

32. Remove T.V. lever, bracket and link assembly

33. Remove oil pump retaining bolts and the pump assembly. Do not remove 3 bolts (A), securing pump cover to valve body.

34. Remove valve body retaining bolts

and the valve body, noting position of 4 control valve to spacer plate check balls.

35. Remove oil pump driveshaft

36. Remove spacer plate and gaskets, noting position of 8 spacer to channel plate check balls.

37. Reverse procedure to install.
