E024

TEST CONDITIONS
1. Codes EO26, EO27, EO31, EO32, and EO34 not set;
2. Transmission in Drive or Reverse;
3. Brake off;
4. Throttle switch open;
5. MAP less than or equal to 103 kPa;
6. Throttle angle equal to or greater than 17°,
7. RPM equal to or greater than 1400.

FAILURE CONDITIONS
Vehicle speed = 0 MPH for 3 seconds.

ACTION TAKEN
1. ECM turns on "Engine Control System Fault" telltale;
2. ECM commands BCM to display "Service Soon" message on Driver Information Center (DIC);
3. Cruise control is disabled for entire ignition cycle;
4. Viscous converter clutch is disabled.

DESCRIPTION The ECM receives unbuffered speed information from the vehicle speed sensor located in the transaxle assembly. If the ECM detects 0 MPH when the engine RPM, MAP, and TPS indicate that the vehicle is moving, Code EO24 is set. To avoid any erratic cruise control operation due to an intermittent problem, the cruise control system is disabled for the entire ignition cycle.

Notes on Fault Tree
1. The vehicle speed sensor provides a 0 or 5 volt signal to the ECM depending on vehicle speed. With the tires moving, the signal to the ECM should be greater than 0.5 volts.

Notes on Intermittents
If Code EO24 is stored as a history code, select parameter ED12, lift drive wheels, place transmission in drive, and allow wheels to turn. Manipulate affected wiring while observing parameter ED12. If fault is induced, parameter ED12 will momentarily drop to 0 MPH. Check for intermittent opens or shorts to ground on CKT 400 and 401. Check terminal contact at the speed sensor and at the ECM connector.
