DESCRIPTION
There are two brake inputs used on the 1987 ALLANTE, a Viscous Converter Clutch (VCC) brake switch and a Cruise Control brake switch. ECM input EI71 shows the status of both brake switch inputs. ECM input EI71 will read "HI" if either of the brake switch inputs are high (foot off the brake). ECM input EI71 will only read "Lo" if both inputs are low (foot on brake).
The cruise control ON/OFF switch must be in the "ON" position to perform this test.

Notes on Intermittents
Check brake switch for proper adjustment and correct part number. Check for intermittent open circuit on CKT 86 and CKT 420 from brake switches to ECM. Turn cruise ON/OFF switch off and manipulate wiring for CKT 420. If ECM input EI71 jumps wiring for to LO, repair intermittent connection in CKT 86.
If 15A ECS fuse or 3A I/P fuse is being blown intermittently, check CKT 86 and CKT 420 for intermittent shorts to ground.
