Self-Diagnostic System Check - Digital Cluster
The "Self-Diagnostic System Check" is an organized approach for identifying a problem caused by the on-car computer-controlled electronics. Understanding this chart and using it correctly will reduce diagnosis time and prevent the unnecessary replacement of parts.
Notes on Trouble Trees
1. This procedure is specific for the Digital Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC), if the vehicle is equipped with an Analog IPC the Analog procedure must be referenced.
2. This process assures that there are no BCM inputs active that would not allow the system to "Wake-Up" in an incorrect sequence.
3. if the odometer displays "0" or "Error" there could be a communication problem or component problem. Reference Chart A-1. Chart A-1 Data Circuit Problem (Digital Cluster)
4. If the IPC or Driver Information Center (DIC) is black (not lit) some characters may be faintly visible, but no backlighting exists to make characters stand out. Or If there is full backlighting with no characters, then Chart B-1 should be referenced. Chart B-1
5. This checks that the ECM is in control of the "Engine Control System Fault" light.
6. The odometer displays and "Engine Control System Fault" lamp works - Enter diagnostics and continue with code diagnosis chart. If diagnostics cannot be entered refer to Chart C-1. Chart C-1 Vehicle Will Not Enter Diagnostics
7. If no codes are set refer to symptoms noted for the effected system. Testing and Inspection
