SUBJECT: THM F-7 SERVICE REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
(SRTA) PROGRAM
MODELS AFFECTED: 1987-1989 ALLANTES
Effective August 1, 1988 the THM F-7 Service and Exchange Program outlined in Cadillac Serviceman Bulletin T-87-80 was replaced with a SRTA Program. Similar to the THM 440T4 SRTA Program, THM F-7 models may be ordered from your local General Motors Service Parts Operation (GMSPO) Parts Distribution Center. Transaxles are available for 1987 through 1989 vehicles.
The requirements of the SRTA Program are identical to the Exchange Program except for ordering procedures. SRTA models can be ordered from GMSPO without contacting Cadillac Technical Assistance System personnel.
Any THM F-7 service procedure that cannot be performed on-car will require a SRTA replacement. Cadillac Serviceman Bulletin T-87-80 provides a specific list of components that are considered on-car serviceable for 1987 and 1988 models. The upcoming 1989 model New Product Information Manual will provide similar information plus diagnostics information unique to the 1989 model.

This bulletin outlines requirements regarding (A) Transaxle identification, Figures 1 and 2; (B) SRTA model chart, Figure 3; (C) THM F-7 fluid fill information, Figure 4; (D) SRTA processing procedures, Figures 5 and 6; and (E) ECM-PROM compatibility information, Figure 7.

The THM F-7 SRTA Program processing procedures parallels the existing THM 440-T4 SRTA
Program. The forms will be the same with the exception on the core return forms shown below and on the following page.
Transaxle Fluid Cooler Flushing:
IMPORTANT: Cooler flushing must be performed whenever the transaxle is removed for service. A transaxle cooler flushing tool is necessary for adequate removal of sediment, debris, and fluid contamination from the cooler system.
The recommended cooler flushing tool is Kent-Moore's Cooler Flusher Tool, J-35944. The correct flushing solution for use with this tool is the Biodegradable Flushing Solution available from Kent-Moore by the gallon, J-35944-20, or six gallon case, J-35944-CSE. Refer to Serviceman Bulletin T-87-16 for the proper use of the flushing tool and flushing solution.
After cooler flushing, measure flow through the cooler. A minimum of 2.1 liters (two quarts) must flow through the discharge hose in 30 seconds. Reflush cooler and measure flow again. If not at minimum flow, replace the cooler in the radiator.
NOTE: Time allowance is included in Labor Operation K7000 (transmission R & R) for these procedures.
SRTA Processing Procedures:
The THM F-7 SRTA Program processing procedures parallel the existing THM 440-T4 SRTA Program. A major difference, however, is that THM F-7 SRTA units are shipped directly from the remanufacturing site to the dealership. Therefore, GMSPO warehouses or distribution sites do not have THM F-7 SRTA units in stock.

Also, the dealership is required to contact Roadway Express, Inc. for delivery of the core to the remanufacturing site. The forms are similar to the THM 440-T4 SRTA Program except for those shown in Figures 5 and 6.
Warranty:
For warranty purposes use Labor Operation K7000 at 5.5 hours (includes oil cooler flushing). Authorization is not required.
