SUBJECT: SOFT TOP QUARTER WINDOW WEATHERSTRIP ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT

MODELS AFFECTED: 1987 ALLANTE

FIGURE 1 - SOFT TOP QUARTER GLASS WEATHERSTRIP AND RETAINER:

Some 1987 Allantes built before VIN breakpoint 100699 may experience a poor fit of the rear door glass to the soft top quarter window weatherstrip. This condition may be caused by a "blow out" clip that is missing from the quarter window weatherstrip retainer (refer to Figure 1). To repair this condition, use the following procedure:

1. Remove the hard top and place it on a protected surface.

2. Raise the soft top boot cover.

3. Raise the soft top and latch it to the windshield header, lower soft top boot cover, and lock the rear hook into the pull down motor assembly.

4. Inspect for the "blow out" clip on the quarter window weatherstrip retainer (refer to Fig. 1).
5. If there is no "blow out" clip, replace the weatherstrip assemblies as necessary with the latest design, P/N 1646627 (RH) and 1646628 (LH), by removing and installing four Phillips head, screws on the inboard side of the metal weatherstrip retainer.
