SUBJECT: INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET RESEALING KIT USAGE

MODELS AFFECTED: 1985-1988 DE VILLES AND FLEETWOODS 1982-1985 RWD DE VILLES AND BROUGHAMS 1982-1988 ELDORADOS AND SEVILLES 1987-1988 ALLANTES


This bulletin supersedes and replaces bulletin T-89-42 which should be discarded. It is being revised to include the cylinder head dowel pin part number.

At the start of the 1989 model year Cadillac released a revised intake manifold gasket sealing system. Cadillac recommends conversion to this revised sealing system whenever possible if repairs being performed on 1988 or prior model engines requires intake manifold removal.

However, before a complete resealing kit can be installed it is essential that the engine be equipped with solid tubular cylinder head to block dowel pins. (Solid dowel pins were included in both production and service engines during model year 1985 beginning with engine unit number T10L499404. Refer to Service Bulletin T-86-41.) Because of the dowel pin requirement, service kits for past model year engines are released in two formats:

^ A preferred service complete resealing kit which includes all parts needed to convert past model engines that are equipped with solid cylinder head dowel pins.

^ An alternate service gasket only kit for servicing engines not equipped with solid cylinder head dowel pins (when service being performed does not require cylinder head removal).

The engine unit number printed on a sticker affixed to a rocker arm cover, and inspection of the engine's existing intake manifold attaching bolt configuration and the engine's warranty history will help determine the appropriate service method. Using this information refer to the following service chart. Refer to the Parts Information section of this bulletin for specific part numbers and applications.

Complete Resealing Kit:

These kits include the intake manifold side gaskets, end seals, and Belleville washer type attaching bolts.



Gasket Only Kit:

These kits include only the intake manifold side gaskets and end seals.
Cylinder Head Dowel Pin:

Package includes one stepped tubular dowel pin.
