SUBJECT: VALVE TRAIN NOISE
MODELS AFFECTED: 1987-1988 ALLANTES 1988 DE VILLES, FLEETWOODS, ELDORADOS AND SEVILLES
Some 1987-1988 Allantes and 1988 DeVilles, Fleetwoods, Eldorados and Sevilles (all vehicles equipped with roller valve lifters) produced with engines built prior to engine unit number. T10L315315 may experience abnormal valve train noise with the engine at normal operating temperature. This condition may be caused by inconsistencies in the lifters' manufacturing processes. Engines built after the above breakpoint have received lifters built with new process controls. Revised service parts are available by ordering P/N 5235498.
Parts are expected to be available August 15, 1988. Until then normal parts orders will not be accepted by GMSPO. Only emergency VIP orders with valid customer complaints will be accepted. SPO will make every effort to obtain parts. All parts will be placed on 400 control to waive VIP surcharges. However, the part will be shipped premium transportation at dealer's expense. All other order types will be cancelled as incorrectly ordered while the 400 control is in place.
Revised lifters can be physically identified by a dark blue pushrod seat and a gold colored snap ring. The earlier design lifter, PN 5234660, should not be used.
