Interior Trim - Sagging Headliner Repair Procedure

SUBJECT: SAGGING HEADLINER REPAIR PROCEDURE
MODELS AFFECTED: 1987-1988 CIMARRONS
Some 1987-1988 Cimarrons may experience a condition of a sagging headliner. This condition may be caused by the headlining material separating from the Velcro (R) retainers at the front or rear of the roof, or from insufficient support in the front or rear.
To repair this condition install service package P/N 22541347 using the procedure below. This package is currently available from GMSPO on a ship-direct basis.
1. Remove headliner.
FIGURE 1 - REMOVE OLD VELCRO (R):
2. Remove the old Velcro (R) and the gray foam behind it from the headliner (front and rear center) to obtain a smooth surface, refer to Figure 1.

3. Mark the location of the new Velcro (R) strips on the headliner and remove the gray foam from those areas to obtain a smooth surface, refer to Figure 2.
4. Attach female Velcro (R) strips to the headliner as follows:
A. Apply 454 adhesive (minimum amount) to the new center Velero (R) strips and install in the prepared smooth locations on the front and rear of the headliner.
NOTE: Refrigerate adhesive material as instructed on tube.
B. Apply 414 adhesive to the four remaining female Velcro (R) strips (minimum amount) and install on the other prepared smooth areas of the headliner, refer to Figure 2.
C. Allow these to stand for approximately 10 minutes.

5. Attach the four additional male Velcro (R) strips to the front and rear headers as indicated in Figure 3 using the eight self-drilling screws provided.
6. Reinstall the headlining.
For warranty purposes use Labor Operation C3108 at 1.2 hours.
