Intake Manifold: Service and Repair

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Battery ground cable
2. Accelerator and T.V. cable bracket at the plenum
3. Throttle body at the plenum
4. EGR valve at plenum
5. Plenum
6. Fuel inlet and return pipes at the fuel rail
7. Serpentine belt
8. Power steering pump and lay aside
9. Generator and lay aside
10. Loosen generator bracket
11. Idle air vacuum hose at the throttle body
12. Wires at the injectors
13. Fuel rail
14. Breather tube
15. Runners
16. Both rocker arm covers
17. Drain the cooling system.
18. Radiator hose at the thermostat outlet
19. Wires at coolant sensor and oil sending switch
20. Coolant sensor
21. Bypass hose at fill neck and head
22. Heater inlet pipe at manifold
23. Intake manifold bolts
24. Intake manifold
25. Loosen rocker arms
26. Remove push rods

CLEAN
^ Gasket material
^ Loose RTV from front and rear ridges of cylinder block
^ Sealing surfaces with degreaser

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Place a 2.0-3.0 mm diameter bead of GM 1052917. RTV sealer or equivalent on each ridge.
2. Intake gasket
3. Push rods and tighten rocker arm nuts to 20-27 Nm (14-20 Ft. Lbs.)
4. Intake manifold on engine
5. Manifold bolts and nut
6. Heater inlet pipe
7. Coolant sensor
8. Wires at coolant sensor and oil sending unit
9. Radiator hose at the thermostat outlet
10. Fill cooling system.
11. Rocker arm cover as previously outlined
12. Breather tube
13. Fuel rail
14. Wires at the injectors
15. Idle air vacuum hose at the throttle body
16. Generator bracket
17. Generator
18. P/S pump
19. Serpentine belt
20. Fuel inlet and return pipes at the fuel rail
21. Plenum
22. EGR valve
23. Throttle body at the plenum
24. Accelerator and T.V. cable bracket at the plenum
25. Connect battery
26. Let engine run until radiator upper hose become hot (thermostat open).

INSPECT
^ Coolant level
^ For fluid leaks
