SUBJECT: CORRECT FLUID LEVEL CHECKING AND INDICATOR INFORMATION

MODELS AFFECTED: 1987 CIMARRON EQUIPPED WITH (MG282) 5-SPEED TRANSAXLE

The (MG282) Manual 5-Speed Transaxle for the 1987 Cimarron is equipped with a fill tube. This is not to be confused with the level indicator and fluid fill tube used with other transaxles which is similar in appearance.

FIGURE 2 - LEVEL INDICATOR LOCATION:

The (MG282) 5-Speed Manual Transaxle has a fluid indicator that screws into the case showing the required fluid level when checked using the correct procedures (see Figure).

FIGURE 3 - CORRECT FILL LUBE PLUG:

FIGURE 4 - RECOMMENDED FLUID LEVEL:

If a fill tube plug has been replaced with an incorrect level indicator, it should be replaced with the correct plug (see Figure 3). This will also result in an overfill condition (see Figure 4) accompanied by high shift effort (hard shifting).
Part Number Description

Check the transaxle fluid level and adjust as required using the correct (screw-in type) level indicator.
FLUID LEVEL

vInspect

Check the fluid level only when the engine is off, the vehicle is level and the transaxle is cool enough to let you rest your fingers on the transaxle case. To check the fluid level, remove and read the fluid level indicator. When it reads H (hot), it is full when the transaxle is warm. If it indicates ADD or below, add fluid. Use 5W-30 (1052931) or equivalent lubricant to fill transaxle. Be sure the fluid level is between the H (hot) or C (cold) marks on the fluid level indicator.
