Engine: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain cooling system.
3. Remove air cleaner and hood.
4. Disconnect A/C hose strap from right side strut tower.
5. Remove A/C accumulator from bracket and position aside.
6. Remove canister hoses from A/C accumulator bracket.
7. Disconnect ground wire from A/C accumulator bracket.
8. Remove A/C accumulator bracket from wheel house.
9. Remove cooling fans.
10. Remove drive belts and disconnect heater hoses.
11. Disconnect electrical connectors from: oil pressure switch, coolant temperature sensor, distributor, EGR solenoid and engine temperature switch.
12. Disconnect cables from: accelerator, cruise control and transaxle throttle valve.
13. Remove cruise control diaphragm and position aside.
14. Disconnect vacuum supply hose.
15. Remove exhaust crossover pipe.
16. Disconnect oil cooler lines from oil filter adapter.
17. Remove oil cooler line bracket from transaxle and position aside.
18. Remove air cleaner mounting bracket.
19. Disconnect fuel lines from throttle body. Carefully bleed fuel pressure at fuel line Schraeder valve using a suitable tool. Use a container or rag to catch fuel.
20. Remove fuel line bracket from transaxle and position fuel lines aside.
21. Disconnect small vacuum line from brake booster.
22. Disconnect AIR solenoid electrical and hose connections.
23. Remove AIR valves with bracket.
24. Disconnect electrical connectors from: ISC, TPS, fuel injectors, MAT sensor, oxygen sensor, throttle body base warmer and ground wires from alternator bracket.
25. Remove idler pulley.
26. Remove power steering hose strap from stud-headed bolt in front of right side cylinder head, then the stud-headed bolt.
27. Disconnect AIR pipe clip near number 2 spark plug.
28. Remove power steering pump with bracket and position aside.
29. Raise and support vehicle.
30. Disconnect electrical connectors from starter motor and ground wires from cylinder block.
31. Remove two flexplate covers and the starter motor.
32. Remove three flexplate to torque converter bolts.
33. Remove A/C compressor lower dust shield.
34. Remove right front wheel assembly.
35. Remove outer wheelhouse plastic shield.
36. Remove A/C compressor mounting bolts and position compressor aside.
37. Remove lower radiator hose.
38. Remove driveline dampener with brackets from lower right front of engine and cradle.
39. Remove three right front engine to transaxle bracket bolts.
40. Pull alternator wire with plastic cover down out of way.
41. Remove two exhaust pipe to manifold bolts and springs.
42. Disconnect AIR pipe to converter bracket from exhaust manifold stud.
43. Remove lower right hand transaxle bellhousing to engine bolt.
44. Attach suitable engine lifting equipment to engine and support engine.
45. Remove five upper transaxle bellhousing to engine bolts.
46. Remove three left front engine mount bracket to engine bolts.
47. Remove engine from vehicle.
48. Reverse procedure to install.
