SUBJECT: A/C COMPRESSOR HOSE ASSEMBLY REFRIGERANT REPEAT LEAKS
MODELS AFFECTED: 1985-1990 DE VILLES AND FLEETWOODS
This bulletin is being revised to chance the labor time information. Please discard bulletin T-90-62.
Some 1985-1990 DeVilles and Fleetwoods may experience a service A/C light due to a refrigerant leak from a crack in the metal tube section of the compressor hose assembly. The crack may be caused by loose A/C compressor mounting bolts. The A/C compressor may be loose to the mounting bracket or the bracket may be loose to the block.
NOTE: The BCM may or may not store a BCM diagnostic code F46, F47, and/or F48.
To diagnose and repair this condition:
1. Remove the A/C compressor lising the appropriate Service Information Manual.
2. Torque tlie A/C compressor mounting bracket bolts to 45 N-m (33 lbs.ft.).
3. Reinstall the A/C compressor and torque bolts to 30 N-m (22 lb.ft.).
4. Install new compressor hose assembly listed below.
1985-1987 P/N 1634220
1988 P/N 25535806
1989 P/N 25535804
1990 1st design P/N 25535804
1st design (before approximate VIN breakpoint 207852). A/C compressor and condenser hose are stamped with P/N 25535804 with metal tubing from clip to accumulator.
1990 2nd design P/N 25553988
2nd design (after approximate VIN breakpoint 207852). A/C compressor and condenser hose are stamped with P/N 25553988 with metal tubing three inches before accumulator only.
5. Evacuate and recharge A/C system using the R-12 Charging Capacity chart below:
1985 2-7/8 lbs.
1986 2-1/2 lbs.
1987-1988 2-3/8 lbs.
1989-1990 2-7/8 lbs.
