Switch Tests

Before switch tests can be initiated, Code .7.0 must be displayed and engine must be running. When each code is displayed, the corresponding switch must be cycled within ten seconds, or the code will be stored in the ECM as a failure. When ECM recognizes a test as passing, or after ten seconds elapse without proper cycling, the display automatically advances to the next switch test code.
On vehicles without cruise control, Codes E.7.5, E.7.6 and E.7.7 will be displayed but cannot be performed during switch tests. When these codes are displayed, allow each code to remain for ten seconds and automatically advance to the next code. Because these codes will be stored as failed codes, there will be no display of E.0.0 at end of tests. To ensure proper operation of remaining switch, Code E.7.8 must advance within ten seconds, or it should be considered as a failed test. To perform switch tests, proceed as follows:
1. Depress and release brake pedal. If display does not advance to E.7.1, refer to appropriate diagnosis for E.7.1.
2. With Code E.7.1 displayed, again depress and release brake pedal to test cruise control brake circuit.
3. With Code E.7.2 displayed, depress and slowly release throttle to test throttle switch.
4. With Code E.7.4 displayed and brakes applied, shift transaxle into Reverse, then into Neutral to test park/neutral switch.
5. With Code E.7.5 displayed, cycle cruise control instrument panel switch on, then back off to test operation of cruise control switch.
6. With Code E.7.6 displayed and cruise control instrument panel switch on, depress and release Set/Coast button to check operation of Set/Coast switch.
7. With Code E.7.8 displayed and engine running, turn steering wheel to full right or full left, then back to the straight ahead position to test operation of power steering pressure switch.
Upon completion of switch tests, ECM will display switch codes which did not test properly. The affected codes will be displayed beginning with the lowest number and will not disappear until the malfunction has been repaired and retested. After switch tests have been performed and all circuits pass, E.0.0 will be displayed, followed by a Code .7.0.
