Intermittent Codes VS. Hard Codes

When segment check is completed, any codes stored in computer memory will be displayed on the data display as follows:
1. Trouble code display begins with ``8.8.8'' for approximately one second, followed by ``..E.'' The first pass of ECM codes includes all detected malfunctions, whether currently present or not. If no ECM codes are stored, the ``..E'' display is bypassed.
2. Following the ``..E'' display, all stored ECM codes, beginning with the lowest numbered, will be displayed for approximately two seconds. All ECM codes will be prefixed with an ``E''.
3. After all ECM codes have been displayed, ``.E.E'' will illuminate, indicating beginning of the second pass. In the second pass of ECM codes, only ``hard'' codes are displayed. These are codes which indicate a currently present malfunction. If there are no stored ``hard'' codes, the ``.E.E'' display is bypassed.
4. When all ECM codes have been displayed, BCM codes will then be displayed in a similar fashion. BCM codes are prefixed with an ``F''. Before first pass of BCM codes, ``..F'' is displayed, and ``.F.F'' is displayed before second pass of BCM codes.
5. After all ECM and BCM codes have been displayed, or if no codes are present, Code .7.0 will be displayed, indicating that system is ready for next diagnostic feature to be selected.
6. If a Code E51 is currently being detected, it will be continuously displayed until diagnostic mode is exited. When Code E51 is displayed, no other diagnostic features are possible.

An intermittent ``trouble code'' can be an ECM code which has occurred within the last 50 ignition cycles, or a BCM code which has occurred within the last 100 ignition cycles. A hard ``trouble code'' indicates a failure which has been detected the last time the ECM or BCM tested the circuit.
For ECM codes E12 through E51, the ``Service Soon'' or ``Service Now'' warning lamp will automatically go out if the malfunction clears.
For ECM codes E52 through E67, the warning lamps will never illuminate.
