SUBJECT: PREMATURE TRIP ODOMETER ROLLOVER ON 1985-1988 DE VILLES AND FLEETWOODS EQUIPPED WITH DIGITAL INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS
Some 1985-1988 De Villes and Fleetwoods equipped with Digital Instrument Clusters may exhibit a condition where the trip odometer will rollover (reset to zero) after driving about 600 miles. The speedometer and season odometer are unaffected.
This is a normal condition and does not require repair or replacement of the Digital Instrument Cluster.
The trip odometer rollover criteria is dependent on the display mode, English or Metric, that was in use at the time the owner last reset the trip odometer to zero. If the trip odometer was last reset to zero by the owner while in the Metric display mode, the trip odometer will rollover to zero at 621.3 miles (999.9 kilometers). Conversely, if the trip odometer was last reset to zero by the owner while in the English display mode, the trip odometer will rollover to zero at 999.9 miles (1609.2 kilometers).
Therefore, in order for the trip odometer to always rollover at 999.9 miles, the owner should only reset the trip odometer to zero while in the English display mode. Owners who comment on this early rollover condition should be made aware of this procedure.
