Trip Odometer - English/Metric Resets to Zero

SUBJECT: TRIP ODOMETER RESET OPERATION ON 1985-1990 DE VILLES AND FLEETWOODS EQUIPPED WITH DIGITAL INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS
This bulletin supersedes DSIB's 86-I-17 and 89-I-14, both filed in Group 8, which should be discarded.
DeVilles and Fleetwoods equipped with Digital Instrument Clusters may exhibit a condition where the trip odometer in English mode rolls over (resets to zero) at 621 miles (999.9 kilometers) or in Metric mode resets to zero at 1609 kilometers (999.9 miles). The speedometer and season odometer are unaffected.
This is a normal condition on all 1985-1990 DeVilles and Fleetwoods and cannot be corrected by repair or replacement of the Digital Instrument Cluster.
This condition may be caused if the customer uses the trip odometer reset button or if the trip odometer rolls over while in Metric display mode. If the cluster was rolling over at 999.9 miles (1609 kilometers), pressing reset in Metric will cause the cluster to reset to zero and roll over next at 999.9 kilometers (621 miles). If the cluster was rolling over at 999.9 kilometers, pressing reset in English will cause the cluster to roll over at 1609 kilometers (999.9 miles).
To correct roll over conditions:
1985-1989 DeVilles and Fleetwoods (roll over at 621 miles, English).
1. Set the cluster in English mode.
2. Disconnect the battery memory power to the cluster by pulling the cluster fuses in the fuse block (or by disconnecting the vehicle battery). This will cause the trip odometer to reset to zero and roll over at 999 miles.
3. Advise the customer not to press reset in Metric and not to allow the cluster to roll over in Metric mode. If either occurs, the cluster may roll over at 621 miles when returned to English mode, and fuses will again have to be pulled.
1990 DeVilles and Fleetwoods (roll over at 621 miles or 1609 kilometers).
Press reset in English to cause cluster rollover to occur always at 999 miles (which will be displayed as a roll over at 1609 kilometers in Metric). Press reset in Metric to cause cluster roll over at 999 kilometers (which will be displayed as a roll over at 621 miles in English).
