Removal and Replacement
1. Disconnect battery ground cable and remove air cleaner assembly.
2. Remove T.V. cable and cable to cooler line bracket
3. Remove exhaust cross-over pipe.
4. Disconnect shift cable bracket and manual lever from transaxle, then secure cable, bracket and lever aside.
5. Disconnect electrical connectors from transaxle, cruise control servo and neutral/back-up lamp switch.
6. Remove upper bolts and studs securing bellhousing to e nine block (positions 2, 3, 4 and 5).
7. Disconnect vacuum line from modulator.
8. Install en line support fixture J-28467 or equivalent, noting the following:
a. Ensure that fixture is installed in extreme forward position across both strut towers.
b. The two-piece, link-type hook should be used at passenger side rear engine hook, and both driver's side hooks should be positioned vertically.
c. Hooks should be tightened to remove all looseness and slack, but it is not necessary to actually raise engine.
9. Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheels.
10. Support lower control arms using suitable jacks, then disconnect bot ball joints from steering knuckles using suitable puller.
11. Install suitable drive axle boot seal protectors, separate drive axles from transaxle, then secure drive axles aside. Care must be taken not to overextend driveshaft pot joints, as joints will be damaged.
12. Remove left stabilizer link and mounting clamp bolts, the clamp, bushings and spacers, noting position for installation.
13. Remove A/C compressor and left engine splash shields, left No. 1 mount cover, and wiring harness cover.
14. Remove vacuum pump from left cradle and secure aside, then disconnect electrical connector from vehicle speed sensor.
15. Remove fasteners securing right and left front engine/transaxle mounts to cradle.
16. Remove left No. 1 mount bolts, then separate and remove left cradle assembly.
17. Disconnect and plug cooler lines, and disconnect cooler line bracket
18. Remove transaxle to engine support bracket
19. Remove right rear mount to transaxle bracket and fasteners securing left rear mount to transaxle.
20. Remove flex plate dust cover and bolts securing flex plate to torque converter.
21. Support transaxle with suitable jack, then remove bellhousing to engine bolts at positions No. 1 and 6. To remove bolt No. 6 it is necessary to use a suitable extension and access bolt through right wheel house opening.
22. Separate and remove transaxle assembly.
23. Reverse procedure to install.
