Refrigerant System - Testing

If a malfunction in the refrigerant system is suspected due to abnormal system pressures, check the following:

1. Check outer surfaces of radiator and condenser cores to be sure air flow is not blocked by dirt, leaves or other foreign material. Be sure to check between the condenser and radiator as well as the outer surfaces. Clean as required.
2. Restrictions or kinks in evaporator core or condenser core, hoses, tubes, etc. Replace as required.
3. Refrigerant leaks. Repair as required.
4. Blower fan operation. Repair as required.
5. Check all air ducts for leaks or restrictions. Low air flow rate may indicate a restricted or frozen evaporator core. Repair as required.
6. Compressor clutch slippage. Check compressor clutch coil current (3 to 6 amps) or resistance (3 to 5 ohms) and compressor clutch. Repair and replace as required.
7. Improper drive belt tension or excessive wear. Replace as required.
8. Plugged accumulator or expansion (orifice) tube. Clean or replace as required.
9. Excessive moisture in the refrigerant system. Replace accumulator.
10. Excessive oil in the refrigerant system. Flush and replace with new 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.
