Control Panel

Electronic Climate Control panel:

The control panel, Fig. 2, is located in the center of the instrument panel below the radio and consists of a keyboard and circuit board assembly.

The red and blue push-button increase or decrease the desired temperature in one degree steps between 65 degrees and 85 degrees. A continuous touch will cause a change in the selected temperature at the rate of two degrees per second until that button is released or the end of the scale is reached.

Settings of 60 degrees and 90 degrees are available, representing maximum cooling or maximum heating respectively. These two settings override all in-vehicle control circuits. The 60 degrees and 90 degrees settings are reached in one degree steps.

The two digit readout displays the temperature setting or outside temperature, depending on which is selected.

The six mode push-button allow the driver to select the appropriate control function.

When the vehicle is equipped with rear defroster, there will be a seventh mode push-button incorporated into the control panel for that function.

Light emitting diodes located above the mode switches indicate which function is selected. There is also a mode push-button to display outside temperature with a light emitting diode to the left of it which lights when the outside temperature is being displayed. When the button is pressed a second time, the control panel will display the set temperature.

The computer, located in the control head, instructs the programmer to respond to the customer selected inputs, drives the light emitting diode displays, and transmits a temperature setting signal through the resistor string to the programmer. The control head is illuminated by two bulbs, located in the upper right and left corners of the front panel. When the ignition is turned off, the control head will remember the previous setting and return to it when restarted. The control head will retain the information as long as the battery remains connected. If the battery is disconnected, then reconnected, the control head will automatically reset to the ``Auto'' mode and to a temperature setting of 75 degrees.
