SUBJECT:
PARTIALLY OBSTRUCTED VIEW OF THE CLOCK AND RADIO DISPLAYS
MODELS AFFECTED:
1987-1988 BROUGHAMS
Some owners of 1987 and early 1988 Broughams experience a partially obstructed view of the clock and radio displays. Customers who are tall, may choose a high seat position, or a seat position close to the steering wheel are more likely to experience this condition. The cause is line-of-sight interference from the IP accessory trim plate to the radio display.
FIGURE 1 - NEW IP ACCESSORY TRIM PLATE:
To address radio and clock visibility, a new center IP trim plate is available. The new trim plate went into 1988 production soon after the start of the model year (approximately VIN sequence 700150). Service parts in 1987 and 1988 interior colors have been released to correct all 1987 and 1988 vehicles. The new style trim plate will also service 1986 Broughams in the colors listed in Table 1.
To repair this condition use the following procedure:
1. Verify that the vehicle has the old style trim plate, refer to Figure 1. The new trim plate is identifiable by a beveled edge under the center air conditioning outlets.
TABLE 1 - PART NUMBERS AND COLOR CODE:
2. If the old style trim plate is found, order a new trim plate from GMSPO in the proper IP colors. See Table 1 for a list of all 1988 and 1987 interior colors.
3. Install the trim plate per the procedure in the Brougham Service Information Manual, Section 8C, "Instrument Panel and Gauges".
