Expansion Block/Orifice Tube: Service and Repair

Expansion Tube:

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. A/C line clip screw (11) and clip (10).
2. High pressure liquid line (1) from inlet pipe assembly (2).
3. Using needle nose pliers, tool J-26549-D or equivalent, grip the plastic tip of the expansion tube and remove using a turning motion along with a push-pull motion to loosen.
4. If difficulty is encountered during removal of the expansion tube, carefully apply heat with a heat gun (hair dryer, epoxy dryer, or equivalent) approximately 1/4 inch from dimples on inlet pipe. Do not overheat pipe.
5. Cap inlet pipe.

INSPECT
Inspect the orifice tube for debris and if necessary clean or replace it. If in the unlikely event a screen on the orifice tube is ripped, the evaporator core, condenser, and orifice tube must also be replaced.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Swab inside of inlet pipe with R- 11 or equivalent.
2. Coat new expansion tube "0" ring with clean 525 viscosity refrigeration oil.
3. Insert the expansion tube into the inlet pipe with smaller screen end first and push until the tube reaches a firm stop. This indicates proper seating of "0" ring.
4. High pressure line (1) to inlet pipe assembly (2).
- Tighten High pressure line to inlet pipe to 24 Nm (18 lbs ft)
- Line clip screw to 1.4 Nm (12.3 lbs in).
