Cruise Control - Inoperative with Code E67

88cad03

Bulletin No.: T-88-106
File in Group: 9
Number: 42 Corp. Ref. No.: 819002
Date: March '88
SUBJECT: CRUISE CONTROL INOPERATIVE CODE E67 AND/OR CRUISE CONTROL RESUME DOES NOT RETURN TO SET SPEED

MODELS AFFECTED: 1988 DE VILLES, FLEETWOODS, ELDORADOS, AND SEVILLES

Some 1988 De Villes, Fleetwoods, Eldorados, or Sevilles may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

^ Cruise control is inoperative with an ECM code E67 stored (neither the "service now" nor "service soon" telltale will illuminate when a code E67 is stored). This condition may be caused by depressing the set/coast and resume/accel. buttons at the same time or by simultaneously switching the cruise on/off switch to "on" while depressing either the set/coast or resume/accel. button. When this occurs, the code E67 will be stored and the cruise control will be inoperative for the entire ignition cycle.

^ Cruise control will not always resume to the previous set speed. This condition may result if the resume button has been depressed and held for too long. If this happens, the cruise control will engage instead of resuming.

These symptoms may be caused by an ECM MEM-CAL with a PROM I.D. of:

- 701 De Ville/Fleetwood Federal vehicles
- 702 De Ville/Fleetwood California vehicles
- 861 Eldorado/Seville Federal vehicles
- 862 Eldorado/Seville Califomia vehicles

The ECM PROM I.D. can be checked by entering diagnostics and selecting the ECM PROM I.D. parameter as described in Section 8D of the appropriate 1988 Service Information Manual. To repair these conditions, replace the ECM MEM-CAL with the appropriate part number listed below:

Emission Service PROM
Vehicle System P/N I.D.

De Ville/Fleetwood Federal 16089317 850
De Ville/Fleetwood California 16089322 851
Eldorado/Seville Federal 16089308 1000
Eldorado/Seville California 16089313 1001

This MEM-CAL will only repair the conditions stated above. If a code E67 was being set, the new MEM-CAL will not disable cruise control during the entire ignition cycle, but only while the condition is present.

If the MEM-CAL does not repair the condition; or a code E67 is set without engaging both the set/coast and resume/accel. at the same time; or by simultaneously switching the cruise on/off switch to "on" while depressing either the set/coast or resume/accel. button; or the resume function is inoperative for any other reason, refer to the appropriate Service Information Manual for diagnosis.
