Body - Front Fender Alignment to Door and Hood

SUBJECT: FRONT FENDER ALIGNMENT TO DOOR AND HOOD

MODELS AFFECTED: 1989 DE VILLES AND FLEETWOODS


Some 1989 DeVilles and Fleetwoods may experience poor fits and/or alignments at the door and/or hood area. To repair these conditions use the following procedure:

FIGURE 1 - HOOD HINGE BOLTS:




FENDER-TO-DOOR ADJUSTMENTS

Gap Between Fender and Door

1. Remove wheel well molding.

2. Remove splash panel at rear of wheel well.

3. Loosen fender retaining bolts at rear of fender. Refer to Figure 1.

4. Raise hood.

5. Loosen two hood hinge bolts. Refer to Figure 1.

FIGURE 2 - ADJUSTMENT SPECIFICATIONS:




6. Loosen three underhood fender bracket bolts.

7. Adjust fender fore or aft to comply with specs. Refer to Figure 2, Section C-C.

8. Tighten rear fender retaining bolts at rear of door to comply with specs. Refer to Figure 2.
9. Tighten hood hinge bolts and bracket retainer bolts.

10. Replace splash panel.

11. Replace wheel well molding.

Fender Inboard or Outboard of Door

1. Remove wheel well molding.

2. Remove splash panel at rear side of wheel well.

3. Loosen fender retaining bolts at rear of fender. Refer to Figure 1.

4. Adjust fender inboard or outboard according to specs. Refer to Figure 2, Section C-C.

IMPORTANT: Adjust at each retaining bolt separately. For example; adjust the upper portion outboard, tighten the top bolt, and then move to the next bolt.

5. Install splash panel at rear side of wheel well.

6. Install wheel well molding.

FENDER ADJUSTMENTS TO HOOD

V-Gap From Rear to Front of Fender

1. Loosen three underhood fender bracket bolts.

2. Adjust fender outboard at front to comply with specs. Refer to Figure 2, Section B-B.

3. Tighten bolts.

Fender to Low to Hood

1. Loosen second and third underhood bracket bolts.

2. Shim to height.

3. Tighten bolts.

IMPORTANT: When one adjustment is made, all other front-end sheet metal alignments must be checked to ensure proper fits.
