SUBJECT:
RELEASE OF HEATED WINDSHIELD POWER MODULE SERVICE KIT
MODELS AFFECTED:
1989-1990 DE VILLES AND FLEETWOODS
A new service kit, P/N 10478526, has been released for heated windshield power module service on 1989-1990 DeVilles and Fleetwoods. Due to internal changes in the module, the procedure below must be followed during initial installation of kit P/N 10478526.
Parts are currently available from GMSPO.
Disassemble:
1. Disconnect battery.
2. Remove three nuts that attach the heated windshield power module feed circuits at the rear of the generator.
3. Remove the power feed circuits from their retaining clips at the fender.
4. Reposition coolant reservoir by:
^ Removing A/C suction hose clip at fan shroud.
^ Loosening A/C accumulator clamp bolt and positioning accumulator toward upper end of clamp.
^ Removing reservoir plastic retaining rivet and rotating reservoir counterclockwise to provide access to harness pass-through hole by fender.
5. Pull power module feed circuits to fender pass-through and attach approximately three feet of mechanic's wire to generator end of harness (to assist in feeding new module harness through fender).
6. Raise car on hoist.
7. Remove lower air dam on front of car.
8. Remove three screws from heated windshield power module bracket.
9. Lower heated windshield power module and splash shield as one piece.
10. Disconnect seven-way connector at heated windshield power module.
11. Pull heated windshield power module feed circuits through fender pass-through and disconnect from mechanic's wire. (Do not pull mechanic's wire out at this time.)
12. Remove four screws that attach heated windshield power module cover to module.
NOTE:
Only three screws will be required for new heated windshield power module.
13. Transfer circuits from seven-way connector at heated windshield power module to connector provided with kit. Refer to chart for revised orientation of circuit locations in connector.
NOTE: Circuits 803 and 364 are different gages but are both BLK/WHT. Terminals are push to seat. Spare terminals are supplied in case terminal damage occurs during transfer. If terminal replacement is required, ensure replacement terminal is of same type and size as original.
14. Install terminal position assurance lock provided in kit.
Assemble:
1. Install heated windshield power module cover to module with three screws.
2. Attach mechanic's wire to generator side of heated windshield power module harness and feed harness into engine compartment.
3. Connect seven-way connector to heated windshield power module and install the connector position assurance lock provided in service kit.
4. Install heated windshield power module to bracket with three screws.
5. Install lower air dam to front of car.
6. Lower car.
7. Reposition power feed circuit harness into clips and route to rear of generator. Install three feed circuit attaching nuts.
8. Reposition coolant reservoir and install retaining rivet.
9. Reposition accumulator and tighten clamp bolt.
10. Reconnect battery and set clock.
11. 1990 vehicles only. 1989 vehicles proceed to step 12. Perform idle leam routine (refer to DSIB 92-I-35).
12. Verify proper heated windshield operation.
For warranty purposes use Labor Operation T6610 at 1.1 hours for 1989 models and Labor Operation T6611 at 1.2 hours for 1990 models which includes idle learn.
