SUBJECT: OIL FILTER ADAPTER LEAKAGE


MODELS AFFECTED: 1989-1990 DE VILLES, FLEETWOODS, ELDORADOS, SEVILLES, AND ALLANTES


This bulletin supersedes bulletin T-89-122 which should be discarded.

Some 1989 or early production 1990 DeVilles, Fleetwoods, Eldorados, Sevilles, and Allantes equipped with the 4.5L V-8 engine may experience oil leakage in the area of the oil filter adapter. While there are several potential sources of oil leakage in this area, if diagnosis reveals that the leak occurs at the junction of the oil cooler lines and adapter, further diagnosis is indicated.

The cooler lines are sealed at the filter adapter with O-ring seals designed to seal with a maximum line nut torque of 17 N-m (12 lbs.ft.). If seal damage is evident, the leak may be repaired with seal replacement. If the oil leak is not eliminated with new seals and a maximum 17 N-m (12 lbs.ft.) cooler line nut torque, an improved oil filter adapter may be installed.

Parts are expected to be available on January 29, 1990. Until then, normal part orders will not be accepted by GMSPO. Only verifiable emergency VIP orders will be accepted. SPO will make every effort to obtain parts. All parts will be placed on 400 control to waive VIP surcharges. However, the part will be shipped premium transportation at dealer's expense. All other order types will be cancelled as incorrectly ordered while the 400 control is in place.
