DESCRIPTION:

This diagnostic test monitors vehicle to detect the Park Neutral switch for a closed position when the vehicle is in 4th gear.

TEST CONDITIONS:

Continuous.

FAILURE CONDITIONS:

Park/Neutral switch closed, 4th gear switch open and vehicle speed between 23 and 35 mph for 10 seconds.

ACTION TAKEN:

1. Code is set.
2. PCM/ECM turns on SERVICE ENGINE SOON lamp.

NOTE ON INTERMITTENTS:

Drive vehicle and observe the parameter display and note for change in display. If display changes, check for defective switch or intermittent short to ground on CKT 434.
