Water Pump Replacement

WATER PUMP

Water Pump Assembly:

Water Pump Fasteners:

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
^ Drain coolant.
1. Battery negative (-) cable.
2. Coolant recovery tank (three mounting screws).
3. Water pump pulley (three bolts). Apply tension to drive belt to keep pulley from rotating by forcing belt tensioner into drive belt with a 1/2 inch breaker bar.
4. Accessory drive belt.
5. Water pump from vehicle.
6. Water pump gasket and discard.

CLEAN
^ Water pump and engine front cover sealing surfaces.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. New gasket on water pump cover studs. Use a gasket without a printed sealing bead.
2. Water pump. Use a water pump with a raised bead on its sealing surface.

TIGHTEN
^ All pump mounting bolts to the torque specifications shown.

3. Water pump pulley and install bolts finger tight.
4. Accessory drive belt.

TIGHTEN
^ Pump pulley bolts to 30 Nm (22 ft lbs) using drag of drive belt to hold pulley. If additional drag is needed, attach a 1/2 inch breaker bar to belt tensioner and apply load to belt while tightening pulley bolts.

5. Coolant recovery tank.
6. Battery negative (-) cable.
^ Refill coolant.
