SUBJECT:
THM F-7 FULL SERVICE PROCEDURE (GENERAL INFORMATION) FOR 1987-1992 ALLANTES
Since the introduction of the THM F-7 (RPO ME9) automatic transaxle in 1987, units requiring service have been replaced through the SRTA Program. Effective September 1, 1992 GM dealers can perform full service operations on the F-7 in addition to complete unit replacement through use of the F-7 Service Replacement Transmission Assembly (SRTA) Program.
NOTE:
IN THE INTEREST OF CUSTOMER SATISFACTION, SRTA MODELS SHOULD ONLY BE CONSIDERED WHEN THE PROJECTED COST OF PARTS AND LABOR EXCEEDS THE COST OF A SRTA REPLACEMENT.
IMPORTANT:
Transaxle oil cooler system flushing must be performed whenever a Hydra-Matic transmission/transaxle is replaced or overhauled. The Kent-Moore transmission oil cooler and line flushing tool (J-35944-essential) must be used along with 21 ounces of Kent-Moore cooler fluid (J-35944-20 for one gallon, and J-35944-CSE for six gallon container of flushing fluid). J-35944-20/J-35944-CSE is a blend of detergents designed to cut and remove transmission contaminants. The solvent is biodegradable so discarding of used solvent is not a problem. Failure to properly flush the oil cooler and cooler pipes may cause repeat transaxle failure.
Refer to Section 7A "Automatic Transaxle On-vehicle Service" for additional information and instructions regarding oil cooler flushing.
