Test E: Rear Defogger Grid Test

View Of Rear Window From Inside The Car:

With the engine running, activate the Rear Defogger. Connect the test lamp lead to ground. Move the test lamp softly along the suspect grid lines on the inside of the rear window from the driver's side to the passenger's side. The test lamp should get brighter as it moves from the driver's side to the passenger's side. See Figure.

^ If the test lamp suddenly lights, there is a break in the grid line just before the point where the test lamp suddenly lights. Repair grid line with a grid repair kit.

^ If the test lamp does not light on a group of grid lines, check for an open in the positive bus bar along the passenger's side of the rear window.

^ If the test lamp does not light on any of the grid lines, check the positive bus bar (passenger's side) and pigtail to connector C319 for an open. Also check terminal contact at connector C319.

^ If the test lamp lights brightly along all of the grid lines, check the negative bus bar (driver's side) and the pigtail to connector C319 for an open. Also check terminal contact at connector C319.
