E052
ECM Memory Circuit:
DESCRIPTION:
This diagnostic test monitors the PCM/ECM long term memory for loss of data. If the battery power or ground are disconnected the code will set. Code E52 indicates that the "long term" memory in the PCM/ECM has been reset. This will be the case whenever power is removed from the PCM/ECM (i.e., disconnecting battery cables, disconnecting PCM/ECM connector, etc.). This code should be "cleared" from memory after restoring the PCM/ECM's power supply.
If code E52 is seen accompanied by complaint of engine quit, stumble, telltale's flashing or other stored codes, check for intermittent loss of power (CKT 439) or ground (CKT 450) to the PCM/ECM. Manipulate wiring and connections with engine running. Remove and replace the PCM/ECM A/B, C/D, and E/F connectors and ensure that they are latched.
FAILURE CONDITIONS:
1. Loss of primary battery power to the PCM/ECM.
2. Loss of data from PCM/ECM.
ACTION TAKEN:
1. Code will set, and no service telltale will be set.
2. Clear codes.
NOTE ON INTERMITTENTS:
If the battery has been disconnected for any purpose, code E52 will set. The PCM/ECM keeps a running check on the memory, if memory changes, it resets.
