E071

Code E71:

Sensor Circuit:

DESCRIPTION:

The diagnostic test monitors Manifold Pressure (MAP), Throttle Angle (TPS), Engine Speed (RPM), EGR flow, and Air Conditioning (A/C) clutch. If the TPS, rpm, EGR flow, and A/C clutch remain constant, and there is a rapid change in MAP, the code will set. Engine operation requires that, any large change in Manifold Pressure (MAP) must be preceded by a change in Throttle Angle (TPS).

TEST CONDITIONS:

1. Codes E21 and E22 are not set.
2. Throttle angle does not change more than 0.8° in 1.01 seconds.
3. Engine speed does not change more than 100 rpm for 1.01 seconds.
4. EGR does not change more than 4% for 1.01 seconds.
5. Air conditioning clutch is not commanded ON or OFF.

FAILURE CONDITIONS:

1. MAP sensor reading changes more than 5.5 kPa in 12.5 milliseconds (0.0125 seconds).

ACTION TAKEN:

1. Code E71 sets.
2. No "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" telltale.

NOTES ON FAULT TREE:

1. Check terminal crimp to the wire and that terminals are properly seated in their connectors.

^ 5 volt reference can be tested by connecting jumpers from harness terminals A, B and C to MAP sensor terminals A, B and C. Connect the positive lead of a DVM to jumper C and the negative lead to jumper A. Apply a vacuum signal to the sensor with the ignition in the ON position. Tap lightly on the sensor with a pencil or pocket screwdriver. Voltage should remain between 4.6 and 5.1 volts, when sensor is tapped.
