Code E85:
Throttle Body Diagram:
DESCRIPTION:
The PCM/ECM continuously learns base idle position. This base idle position is the relationship of engine speed to throttle position. The PCM/ECM is limited to a fixed amount of learned throttle angle that it can apply. When this limit is reached the code will set. The cause of this increase in learned throttle angle is the build up of deposits in the throttle body.
TEST CONDITIONS:
Continuous.
FAILURE CONDITIONS:
Coast down throttle angle offset is greater than 5° from the learned value.
ACTION TAKEN:
1. Code is set.
2. PCM/ECM turns on SERVICE ENGINE SOON lamp.
NOTES ON FAULT TREE:
1. If engine stalls continue the test. The stall may be caused by the carbon deposits on the throttle valves and in the throttle bores.
