Fig. 318 Knee Bolster Replacement:

1. Deactivate airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG DEACTIVATION.
2. Remove I/P lower trim panel.
3. Remove two twilight sentinel bracket retaining screws.
4. Remove two fuse block bracket retaining screws.
5. On 1991 models, remove two nuts from studs on instrument panel.
6. On all models, remove two knee bolster tie bar retaining screws, Fig. 318.
7. Remove left side instrument panel retaining bolt.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Following installation, activate airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG ACTIVATION.
b. Turn ignition switch to the On position and verify the ``Inflatable Restraint'' indicator flashes 7 to 9 times then turns Off. If indicator does not respond, refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING PROCEDURE/TESTING PROCEDURES/RETRIEVING TROUBLE CODES.
