SUBJECT: FUEL PUMP STRAINER REPLACEMENT

MODELS AFFECTED: 1990-1992 DE VILLES AND FLEETWOODS

GMSPO has released a service kit to enable fuel pump strainer replacement without fuel pump replacement on 1990-1992 DeVilles and Fleetwoods. The kit, P/N 25121582, contains a fuel pump strainer and a fastener.

To repair vehicles requiring fuel pump strainer replacement use the following procedure:

1. Remove fuel sender assembly as outlined in Section 6C of the appropriate Service Information Manual.

2. Note the orientation of the fuel pump strainer to the float arm. Refer to Figure 1.

3. Cut the fastener off of the cast post at the base of the pump using small side cutters or equivalent.

IMPORTANT: Use care when cutting the fastener from the cast post to avoid damaging the cast post.

4. Support pump with one hand and grasp strainer with other hand. Pull strainer off of pump and discard.

5. Support pump with one hand and position new strainer, P/N 25121582, on pump in same position as noted during disassembly.

6. Push the fastener onto the cast post until strainer fits tightly to pump using a 5.5 mm nut driver or equivalent.

7. Reinstall fuel gage sender and pump assembly into fuel tank as outlined in Section 6C of the appropriate Service Information Manual.
