SUBJECT: HEADLAMPS MISALIGNED TO HOOD
MODELS AFFECTED: 1991 DE VILLES AND FLEETWOODS
Some 1991 DeVilles and Fleetwoods may exhibit a condition where the headlights appear misaligned to the forward edge of the vehicles hood. The condition is most prevalent on the driver side headlamp where the inboard edge of the lamp appears lower than the outboard edge of the lamp. This condition may be caused by an excess of material in the two ribs on the underside of the headlamp thumb screw holes. This condition was corrected in production at the VIN breakpoint 320743.
Figure 1 - Removal of Material From Ribs:
To repair this condition use the following procedure:
1. Remove the misaligned headlamp. Refer to Service Information Manual, Section 8B, Headlamp Assembly.
2. Place the headlamp assembly on a bench with the top side of the assembly facing down.
3. Identify the two ribs on the underside of the thumb screw hole of the high side of the lamp. Remove approximately 4 mm (3/16") of material from each of the ribs. Refer to Figure 1.
4. Reinstall the headlamp housing on the car, and lower the hood to verify there is a consistent gap from the headlamp to the hood.
5. Aim the headlamp. Refer to Service Information Manual, Section 8B, Headlamp Aiming.
