SUBJECT:
TRANSAXLE GEAR WHINE NOISE BETWEEN 20-35 MPH
MODELS AFFECTED:
1991-1992 DE VILLES, FLEETWOODS, ELDORADOS, AND SEVILLES
Some 1991-1992 DeVilles, Fleetwoods, Eldorados, and Sevilles may experience a gear whine noise on a closed throttle deceleration (coastdown) or a light throttle acceleration at 20-35 mph (30-60 kph). This condition may be diagnosed as transaxle final drive gear noise.
The cause of this condition is still under investigation at this time. Current information indicates that the powertrain, its mounting system, and the subframe all contribute to the condition.
The correction for this condition has not yet been determined. Transaxle, final drive, mount, or bracket replacement with currently available parts is not recommended. Dealers are requested to defer repair attempts until this bulletin is updated with appropriate repair procedure and parts information.
