System Check

SYSTEM CHECK

PREPARATION

Before beginning any operational checks, make sure that these components and circuits are working properly:
^ Parking lights
^ Low beam headlights
^ Horn
^ Electric door locks
^ Also check for good fuses

Make sure the headlights and parking lights are off. Open the door window to allow you to open the door without using a key. The security light should not be on while you are performing these steps.

SECURITY LIGHT OPERATION

With the ignition OFF, open the driver's door. The security light should begin flashing. Lock the doors with the electric switch and check that the security light glows steadily. If it does, get out of the car and close the door. See if the security light goes off within 6 seconds. When it does, the system is armed.

ALARM ACTIVATION

To activate the alarm, reach through the window and unlock the door with the manual lock button or the electric switch. Open the door and make sure that the horn sounds and the lights flash. They should do this for approximately 3 minutes and then shut down automatically. Disconnect the horns when performing the automatic shut down test.

RETURN TO STANDBY

To check that the system will return to a standby condition, close the door, unlock the door with the key, and then open the door. The alarm should not sound since the system has been disarmed. Repeat these steps to check the tamper switches and circuitry to each door.

IGNITION DISARM SYSTEM

To check the ignition disarm system, repeat the arming procedures, but remain in the car and close the door. Wait for the security light to go out, indicating that the system is armed.

Turn the ignition switch ON, then OFF. When you open the door, the alarm should not activate but should be in a standby condition with the security light flashing.
