SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

The Computer Command Control System (C3) has an Electronic Control Module (ECM). The C3 system, through this module, can monitor a number of engine and vehicle operating functions which control the following systems:

^ Fuel Delivery
^ Ignition / Electronic Spark Timing (EST)
^ Electronic Spark Control (ESC)
^ Air management
^ Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR)
^ [1][2]Torque Converter Clutch. (TCC)

The C3 system has a built-in diagnostic system that recognizes and identifies possible operational problems. This system recovers problems within the ECM and Electronic Climate Control (ECC). The C3 system (ECM) signals the driver through a "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light located on the instrument panel. The "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light will remain "ON" until the problem is identified and repaired. This same light is combined with the built-in diagnostic system in order to assist the technician in locating and correcting problems within the C3 system. It does this by flashing a series of codes which identify the possible problem areas at fault, within the C3 system. The ECC is used by the driver to control air condition and heating systems, as well as to retrieve diagnostic codes. The ECC head stores codes from the ECC and ECM systems (see ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTICS under TESTING PROCEDURES). Once these codes are displayed, the applicable testing procedure can be used. For further information on ECC, see HEATING VENTILATION AND AIR CONDITIONING.
