SUBJECT: TAIL PIPE SMOKE ON START UP

MODELS AFFECTED: 1990 BROUGHAMS WITH 5.7L 1991 BROUGHAMS


Some 1990 Broughams with 5.7L and 1991 Broughams may exhibit a puff of tail pipe smoke on start up. The smoke may be blue or bluish white in color. The smoke may be caused by oil that seeps into the cylinders during an extended soak period.

If the smoke is blue or bluish white and occurs only at start up, install valve seal kit P/N 12511890. This kit incorporates an umbrella seal for the exhaust valve stem and should be installed. Refer to Section 6A4 of the applicable Service Information Manual for assembly procedure.
