Rear Door Ajar

Rear Door Ajar Diagnosis:

Front Door Ajar Circuit:

TEST CONDITION:

1. Vehicle is a 4 door (BCM checks EEPROM).
2. PCM/ECM Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter (UART) datalink is functioning properly.

FAILURE CONDITION:

1. Engine running.
2. Transmission in drive or reverse.
3. Either rear door ajar.
4. "Rear Door Ajar" failure already present.
5. Either rear door still ajar.

ACTION TAKEN:

Display the "Rear Door Ajar" message on the CCDIC.

The BCM provides system voltage to the rear door ajar circuit, and the left hand and right hand rear door ajar switches provide two separate paths to ground. The BCM internally monitors the voltage level at pin 3C14. When the rear door ajar circuit is open the BCM will detect system voltage, but if one or both switches provide a path to ground (either rear door open), the BCM will detect the circuit has been grounded. Once the BCM detects that all failure conditions have been met, it will send the "Rear Door Ajar" message to the CCDIC.

The failure conditions are divided up into two sets. The first set of conditions is used if the BCM has not detected the door ajar yet. If the BCM has already detected the door ajar, it will use the second set of conditions. This is done so that once the message has appeared, it will remain until the door has been closed properly.
