Overides
PCM OVERRIDESAfter .7.0 is displayed on the Fuel Data Center (FDC), the PCM Override tests can be initiated by depressing the "HI" button on the Electronic Climate Control (ECC) panel. When the "HI" button has been depressed the FDC will display "E.9.5," at this time depress the "ECON" and "WARMER" buttons on the ECC panel simultaneously. "E.5.0" will be displayed on the FDC. The "HI" and "LO" can be used to select a specific override. The FDC will alternately display the test code and the information specific to that override. The "Cooler" and "Warmer" buttons are used to activate the override test. The FDC will display the override as a percentage of apply with "00" equaling "OFF" and "99" as "ON".
E.5.O NO OVERRIDES
E.5.1 VCC SOLENOID
WARMER BUTTON:
Solenoid is turned "ON" and the Viscous Converter Clutch (VCC) will be engaged as long as the button is depressed, FDC will display "E.5.1" and "99" alternately.
COOLER BUTTON:
Solenoid is turned "OFF" and the VCC will be disengaged as long as the button is depressed, FDC will display "E.5.1" and "00" alternately.
E.5.2 EGR SOLENOID
WARMER BUTTON:
Solenoid is turned "OFF" and the EGR valve will receive a vacuum signal as long as the button is depressed, FDC will display "E.5.2" and "99" alternately.
COOLER BUTTON:
Solenoid is turned "ON" and the EGR will NOT receive a vacuum signal as long as the button is depressed, FDC will display "E.5.2" and "00" alternately.
E.5.3 ISC MOTOR
TEST CONDITIONS:
1. Vehicle in Park or Neutral (Engine "OFF" or Running).
2. (Engine Running) A/C and EGR are "OFF" and Spark Advance is at a calculated value, when test is active.
3. (Engine "OFF" or Running) When Idle Speed Control (ISC) stopped the FDC displays "E.5.3" and "50".
4. TPS 4 degrees or less.
WARMER BUTTON:
(Engine Off)
The ISC plunger will extend until it ratchets once and, FDC will display "E.5.3" and "99" alternately.
(Engine Running)
"8.8.8" will be displayed. Extending the ISC is not allowed with the engine running.
COOLER BUTTON:
(Engine Off)
Retract ISC, FDC displays "E.5.3" and "00".
(Engine Running)
ISC will retract to base idle. Retract ISC, FDC displays "E.5.3" and "00".
E.5.4 FUEL INJECTOR CUTOUT (POWER BALANCE)
TEST CONDITIONS:
1. Transmission in Park, engine running.
2. Depress accelerator to desired speed before selecting this override, as ISC is stopped, and A/C is commanded "OFF" when this override is selected.
WARMER BUTTON:
Selects an Injector and when held will increment at the rate of one selection per second and, FDC will display injector selected.
COOLER BUTTON:
Selected injector is disabled and FDC will display "E.5.4" and "00" alternately.
E.5.5 FUEL PUMP RELAY TEST CONDITIONS:
1. Vehicle in Park or Neutral, engine running.
2. If Oil Pressure switch is not disconnected the engine will continue to run, as this switch is a backup to the relay.
WARMER BUTTON:
The warmer button does not apply to this test.
COOLER BUTTON:
Relay "OFF", FDC displays "E.5.5" and "00". Display will return to "99" and relay will energize when the button is released. The engine will continue to run on the backup circuit through the oil pressure switch, if the backup circuit is functional.
E.5.6 NOT VALID
E.5.7 CRUISE SERVO
TEST CONDITIONS:
1. Engine should be run to charge the vacuum reservoir before performing the test.
2. Engine "OFF", transmission in Park.
WARMER BUTTON:
Retract Servo, FDC displays "E.5.7" and "00" to "99".
COOLER BUTTON:
Extend Servo, FDC display "E.5.7" and "99" to "00".
Fan Speed:
E.5.8 ENGINE COOLING FAN
NOTES ON OVERRIDE:
1. Both fans should run when either High or Low speed is commanded.
2. The FDC displays the relay state. 1 = ON and 0 = OFF. Left digit is Low relay, right digit is High relay
WARMER BUTTON:
Controls the right digit and high relay. Each time the button is depressed the relay will change state.
COOLER BUTTON:
Controls the left digit and low relay. Each time the button is depressed the relay will change state.
E.5.9 FIXED SPARK
TEST CONDITIONS:
1. Transmission in Park, engine running.
2. Depress Cooler Button. This places the PCM in the Set Timing mode, and FDC will display "10". At this point the timing may be mechanically adjusted.
3. Timing cannot be advanced more than the calculated advance for a given engine speed. "8.8.8" will be displayed if advance is to great.
WARMER BUTTON:
Advance timing, FDC displays "E.5.9" and commanded timing.
COOLER BUTTON:
Retard timing, FDC displays "E.5.9" and commanded timing.
E.6.O INJECTOR FLOW
TEST CONDITIONS:
1. Transmission in Park, engine "OFF"
2. Each injector can be tested only once when this override is entered. To retest, the engine must be started and the engine run.
WARMER BUTTON:
Open injector, FDC displays "E.6.0" and "99". The 99 indicates that the command to open the injector for 50 milliseconds has occurred. An injector can be tested only once per key cycle. The engine must be started and run before the test can be performed again for that cylinder.
COOLER BUTTON:
Select Injector, FDC displays "E.6.0" and the injector selected. When the cooler button is depressed and held the display will increment at the rate of one injector per second.
Shift A Shift B:
