B410

BCM Code B410:

Charging Circuit:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION:
The generator on this vehicle has fault detection capability built into the regulator. The PCM will supply 12 volts to the regulator over CKT 225, the L-terminal. The BCM will monitor the field voltage of the generator by way of a PWM signal over CKT 23, the F-terminal. This is the field percent duty cycle and shown as input BD51.

Code B410 will set if the ignition is "ON," engine running and B334 is not set and the following conditions exist:

^ Engine running.
^ Generator feedback line (L-terminal) is low for at least 15 seconds.
^ Code P110 will also be set.

OR

^ Engine running.
^ Generator feedback line (L-terminal) is high.
^ Generator is commanded "ON" by the PCM.
^ Generator field input is less than 5% for at least 2 minutes.

TEST DESCRIPTION: Test numbers refer to circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.

1. If Code P110 is also set, then the generator feedback line (terminal "L") is low.
2. BCM data value BD5i displays the amount of generator field activity. Under normal conditions, a reading below 5% would indicate a fault in the field circuit or BCM.
3. This step checks the PCM ability to cycle the generator control output.

NOTES ON INTERMITTENTS:
If an intermittent condition exists, check CKTs 725, 23, and 225 for intermittent opens or shorts to ground. Perform a comprehensive visual check of the generator wiring and connections. Also, perform the battery and charging system checks to assure proper operation of these components.
