Part 1 of 2
DTC P036:
EGR Valve Circuit:
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION:
This diagnostic test checks for a malfunction in the circuitry and hardware at the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve. The controllability at the valve is monitored by the pintle position error from desired. If such condition exits, Code P036 is set.
TEST CONDITION(S):
Ignition voltage 11 volts or greater.
FAILURE CONDITION(S):
Difference between commanded and actual EGR position is greater than 25 counts for 10 seconds;
OR
Learned EGR closed position is below 9 counts or above 103 counts.
ACTION TAKEN:
1. PCM turns "ON" the "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" MIL
2. PCM disables the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) solenoid for the entire ignition cycle.
3. Transaxle shift adapts are maintained at current levels.
NOTES ON FAULT TREE:
1. This checks to see if the EGR pintle position feedback is within a valid range with EGR "OFF."
2. This forces a high signal on the feedback circuit and looks for an appropriate result.
3. This removes the signal on the feedback circuit and checks for an appropriate result.
4. Since the 5 volt reference line is jumpered to the feedback line, the jumper should read 5 volts.
