DTC P036:

EGR Valve Circuit:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION:
This diagnostic test checks for a malfunction in the circuitry and hardware at the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve. The controllability at the valve is monitored by the pintle position error from desired. If such condition exits, Code P036 is set.

NOTES ON FAULT TREE:
5. With the EGR valve "OFF," (EGR overridden to 0), the EGR pintle position should read less than 50 counts.
6. With the EGR valve commanded to 50%, the EGR pintle position should read between 100 and 150 counts.
7. With the EGR valve full "ON," the EGR pintle position should read greater than 200 counts.
8. The Code P036 snapshot parameter PD07 (EGR pintle position) valve can help determine the root cause even if the problem cannot be reproduced. If a low pintle position (less than 9) is recorded in the snapshot, that means a low feedback circuit voltage caused the code to set. If a high pintle position (greater than 250) is recorded in the snapshot, that means a high feedback circuit voltage caused the code to set. If an intermediate pintle position (between 9 and 250) is recorded in the snapshot, that means the code was probably set because the PCM could not control the EGR solenoid either due to intermittents in the solenoid (CKTs 750 and 435) or a sticky EGR valve.
