Compressor And Mounting Brackets
Removal
Tool Required:
J33026 Compressor Holding Fixture
^ Recover refrigerant.
1. Serpentine drive belt.
A. Rotate the belt tensioner upward off of drive belt with a wrench.
B. Remove belt from all components.
^ Raise and suitably support vehicle.
2. Front bumper valance panel.
A. Remove three screws.
B. Valance panel; disengage four tabs from slots and remove nuts.
3. Compressor splash shield (two screws).
4. Engine splash shield retainers and three screws.
5. Compressor electrical connection.
6. One bolt securing compressor inlet and outlet line fitting.
7. Compressor from front mounting bracket (two bolts).
8. Two rear bracket-to-engine block mounting bolts.
9. Compressor assembly from vehicle.
10. Two compressor rear bracket bolts using a J 33026 holding fixture.
Install
1. Rear bracket-to-compressor.
Tighten: Bracket-to-compressor bolts to 34 N.m (25 lb. ft.).
2. Compressor to vehicle; attach at front bracket.
Tighten: Front bracket bolt to 45 N.m (33 lb. ft.).
3. Bolts securing rear compressor bracket to engine.
Tighten: Rear bracket-to-engine bolts to 30 N.m (22 lb. ft.).
4. One bolt securing compressor inlet and outlet line fitting.
Tighten: Compressor line fitting bolt to 33 N.m (24 lb. ft.).
5. Compressor electrical connection.
6. Engine splash shield retainers and three screws.
7. Compressor splash shield (two screws).
8. Front bumper valance panel.
^ Lower vehicle.
9. Serpentine drive belt.
Important
^ Be sure that the belt is aligned properly into the grooves of the accessory pulleys.
A. Rotate belt tensioner upward with a wrench and thread the belt under the tensioner pulley.
B. Return tensioner to normal position.
^ Evacuate and charge ECC system.
^ Leak test all refrigerant connections.
NOTICE: All leaks must be repaired. Under no circumstances should the compressor be operated when a leak exists. Loss of refrigerant prevents oil return to the compressor and operating it could cause damage.
