Whenever servicing these engines, and crankshaft balancer removal is required use special tool J 38416-B to remove the balancer from the crankshaft and install it using the crankshaft balancer mounting bolt. DO NOT PRY THE CRANKSHAFT BALANCER OFF THE CRANKSHAFT.

4.6L 3542045 12552437

The part number is located on one of the three legs extending to the outer ring of the balancer. If the balancer being serviced is stamped with the part number 3542045, always replace the balancer with the specified new part number.

The part number for the updated balancer is cast as 1255243- on the leg with the remainder of the number located on the outer ring. The outer ring number will begin with a "6" indicating the balancer is for a 4.9L engine and a "7" for 4.6L engines. The next digit indicates model year and the remainder identify the Julian Date, the day of the year the balancer was produced. Aside from the "6" cast into the outer ring, the 4.9L crankshaft balancer is also identified by the key way slot cast into the balancer.
