The 4T80-E uses a scavenger tube, which goes from the final drive area of the case to the driven sprocket support at the other end of the unit (figure 1). This tube uses formed rubber seals at both ends to prevent air from being sucked into the tube. These seals are critical to the operation of the triple pump system.

To avoid damaging the seals, make certain that the driven sprocket support scavenger tube seal is installed In the support before the support is installed into the case (figure 2). It is also advisable to apply assembly grease to the inside of the seal to aid installing the tube into the seal, since access to this area is impossible after the channel plate is installed into the case.
