CONDITION:
Some owners may experience a ticking, rattling, knock or clanging type noise from the flywheel area of the engine. This noise is usually loudest at idle and drive ranges.
CAUSE:
The noise may be caused by a cracked or loose flywheel. Flywheel damage may be caused by misalignment of the engine to the transaxle due to incorrect engine block dowel pin height and/or missing dowel pins.
CORRECTION:
Install the dowel pin to a height of 9.5 mm from the rear block face (Figure 1). If a dowel pin has a height greater than 9.5 mm from the rear block face, it must be driven in to the correct height. Refer to the 1993 Eldorado/Seville Service Manual, Section 6A2, for engine flywheel replacement procedures.
