Group Ref.: Body

Bulletin No.: 311511

Date: March, 1994

SUBJECT:
FOLDING TOP STOWAGE COVER LOCK LATCH BREAKAGE (REPLACE LATCH, ADD SPRING)

MODELS:
1990-1993 CADILLAC ALLANTE

Condition:

Some owners may experience a condition where the folding top stowage cover lock will not release due to latch breakage.

Cause:

Tension applied to the cable due to over travel of the release handle is sufficient to break the latch.

Correction:

Replace the broken latch and add a spring between the latch and cable to relieve tension when the release handle is pulled too far.

Service Procedures:

Remove/Disconnect

1. To open cover, insert a wide, flat screw driver into the slot at the rear of the lock, next to the latch. Turn to release lock. Refer to Figure 1.

2. Lock assembly.

3. Cable from latch by cutting aluminum eye on latch.

4. Latch from lock.

Replace/Connect

1. New latch to lock.

2. Lock assembly to car.

3. Attach spring to eye on latch and loop in cable.

4. Adjust cable to eliminate slack, putting minor tension on the spring.

5. Adjust lock assembly as required. Parts are currently available from GMSPO.
